Xavier and his son, Anthony, were living in a friend’s truck. Xavier was battling health issues leaving him unable to work. Anthony was enrolled in high school online, so the truck had to be parked somewhere close to free Wi-Fi so Anthony would not fall behind. They were accepted into the Able program in April 2020 and in June a one-bedroom apartment became available. They were thankful to have it. Xavier slept in a recliner in the living room allowing Anthony to sleep in the bedroom. After a time, Xavier’s health began to improve and he started working again. Soon another apartment, two bedrooms, became available. Xavier’s health continued to improve and he was able to begin working full-time. Anthony graduated from high school, enrolled in college and works full time at the same company as his father. Xavier loves his job and is back to working on his goals. Most importantly, they have signed a lease for a new apartment and, because of the progress they have made, they have successfully exited the Able program.

Xavier shared, “Because of the help I received, I was able to break the cycle of homelessness that had become our way of life.”
